Okay, let’s go…

With my 1972 Kenner Blythe doll, Isla

the ‘real life’ thing

My name is Jess, and I live and work in glorious (North) Yorkshire. I share a home with my wonderful husband Dan, a beautiful chihuahua named Buffy, and all our various toys and collections. My wardrobe consists almost entirely of black, and my life is full of skulls, bats, and occult fuckery. I have a literal PhD in memes and feminist rage, and honestly I am entirely fed up with what the internet has become.

I also have really strong feelings about the notion of ‘real life’ in relation to the Internet. Just ask my students!

the ‘doll’ thing

You know what, hit the dolls and toys page for more on that. It’s pretty much the main thing at this point.

Blythe dolls have my heart forever.

glitterbat . net

glitterbat.net was purchased in August 2004 and has been used as a document, to prove that I was here… to prove I was at all… *ahem* Yeah. You’ve got excellent taste if you got that. Pixel art, Blythe dolls, hosting friends, tinkering with code, documenting life, general Internet mucking around… I stopped hand cranking static content and initially made the switch to blogging/WordPress around 2006 and have been using it since.

The blog is basically dead at this point – maybe I’ll resurrect it one day, maybe I won’t. Do people even read blogs anymore? I doubt it.

a little disclaimer…

During my PhD I spent a lot of time distracting myself by writing about products and experiences on the blog, when I probably should have been concentrating on my thesis… This meant that, sometimes, people would get in touch to ask me to review or feature a particular product or service. I totally did this for a while, and then fucked it all off because my real work comes first and I mean… how many ‘free’ lipglosses do you really need? However, I want to say that this has always been made explicitly clear in relevant posts. I’m not about to lie to you, so all opinions presented are 100% honest and 100% my own. I’m far too Yorkshire to “piss up your leg and try to tell you it’s raining”, as my dad would have said.
