It looks like 2013 is shaping up to be the year that I embrace shooting with a DSLR. After buying the new Nikon lens right after Christmas, Dan and I pooled some of the money we’d been gifted with and invested in a Nikon D5100 body. I’m kind of a little late writing about this, given that I’ve been using it for A Doll A Day photos since… well, since it arrived on January 5th basically.
If you don’t count our shared Nikon D100 (which we picked up second hand), it’s the fanciest camera I’ve ever had. Somehow I still felt the urge to stick a plastic lens on it and muck around with dirty, grainy, blurry pictures. I’m proud to announce the arrival of our first baby – a Lensbaby Muse, that is, not an actual baby. Christ on a cupcake, NO.
My first attempt with Lux was a little off. I’m going to go ahead and put it down to snow, flu-plague and general ignorance when it comes to shooting in manual mode. I’m determined to learn though, and I think today’s shots of Sprue, my Mama Told Me Momoko came out a lot better – and that’s in spite of indoor lighting.
It’s going to be a very steep learning curve, I think! Practice makes perfect and all that… mind you, perfection’s overrated. I’m just happy to have a squishy, bendy, unpredictable lens to play with.
Does anyone else use a Lensbaby for doll and toy photography? Do you have any tips you can share?
