This weekend Dan & I had the delightful Hevs over for the Leeds Comic Convention – Thought Bubble. Hevs arrived on Friday for Xbox fun and tasty mash, in preparation for the weekend of awesome we were about to face. This post will have a lot of pictures, so bear with me – I’m absolutely shattered.
Ninja Cavey, who technically belongs to Dan, came along for the Thought Bubble shenanigans. Bottom left is actually from today, when we went to the Leeds Art Gallery… oh well. Back to the con chatter!
The con itself was massive! So many stalls and artists and all manner of cute things to take your money. I bought a blank glow in the dark Munny, and a wee Ninja Town figure for Dan. In super exciting purchase news, Dan & I bought a couple of posters for the apartment from Doctor Geof of Fetishman awesomeness. We also had a lovely portrait done by the man himself – isn’t it cute?
Excuse the wonkiness, I couldn’t be bothered with digging my camera out so I snapped that on my phone. I’m becoming worryingly attached to my Xperia. Phone squee-ing aside, how adorable is that tentacle beast? I love me a bit of tentacle action, haha! :cheery: Lovely purple octosquid… *dreamy sigh* Dan & I have been enjoying Fetishman for a good few years now, and I highly recommend it to anyone who’s looking for something a touch wicked in their comics. Click here for the Fetishman website, which is not really all that rude, but certainly NSFW.
In the afternoon, the three of us went to a paint your own Momiji doll workshop. My Momiji (not pictured) has gone to live with Hevs, whilst the Momiji Hevs painted (blue haired robo girl) is going to live with our other toys on the Expedit of doom. The Momiji Dan painted (purple haired cute girl) is coming to work with me tomorrow to live on my desk. She will help me defeat the Java demons, I’m sure! :hero:
After we had done shopping and painting, we headed over to Little Tokyo for dinner. Little Tokyo is quickly becoming my new favourite restaurant ever! They do the nicest sushi and ramen… ohhhh. The interior is beautiful too! Gorgeous wooden tables and fairy lights and real fish in a pond… Happy Jess is happy! The three of us were so tired after dinner that we went back to our apartment to relax for a while, before getting ready to head out to the after party and Dr Sketchy’s crazy burlesque drawing event.
Now, I’m not an arty type at all – pixels I can handle, but I wouldn’t say I’m good. Photography is a case of taking masses of pictures in the hopes that a handful will come out alright. I can’t draw for toffee, for cake, or for any other delicious treat. I was a little apprehensive when Hevs said she wanted to go to a burlesque/drawing event after the show. Thankfully I wasn’t forced to draw anything, but I did rather enjoy the 10 minutes “no hands ” challenge. I chose to draw the saucy pair of burlesque beauties with my stockinged feet… anything for a giggle!
The picture above is my effort… not bad, in a completely ridiculous way! My toe cramping efforts did not go unrewarded either – I won a copy of Little Jordan Ray’s Muddy Spud by Gris Grimly, courtesy of Baby Tattoo. Nicely done, no?
All in all an awesome weekend – Dan & I will definitely be going again next year! Now I’m going to go curl up with a cup of Earl Grey, it’s going to be a busy week at work and I want to feel like I have relaxed a little bit this weekend, haha!
