Getting Started With Beaded Jewellery

March 27, 2014 2 Comments

Looking around for wedding jewellery was starting to get me really, really frustrated. Everything I saw was not quite right, I didn’t like x detail, it was too y, etc. Unsurprisingly, I did what I always do – got in a sulk and said “I’ll just make it myself!” This is how I ended up placing an order with a bead shop last Friday night for some bits and bobs to get started with (beaded) jewellery making.

My First Earrings

Left to right we have the first pair of earrings I made – certainly not perfect, but a start. The purple and grey pearly looking ones were the second set, and I’ll probably want something similar for my wedding jewellery. I know I want a pearl-looking kind of vibe going on, but not real pearls. I learned a lot about pearls in the past few weeks, and they kind of gross me out a bit. Finally the orange skulls were a gift for my gorgeous friend Catherine, because I was on a bit of a roll… heh. I rescued the big skull beads from a broken bracelet I had sitting around, but have ordered some even tinier skulls since. Can’t go wrong with skulls, eh?

My next job is doing some bracelet/necklace stringing… wish me luck!

I think your creations are divine! I love how the colors fit the “Dia de Los Muertos” theme so well. <3

Aw, thanks Sophie! I love day of the dead stuff, so I’m happy it’s got that vibe 🙂
